Day 117

February 25th, 2019: Listen Real Close To Roars

When people show you that they are assholes, see them for what they are. Do not allow your need to fix things (read: people) put you into deep shit. Understand this: not everyone can be saved. It’s ok to pull away. When someone says something that reveals who they are behind the mask, believe them. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes

Day 114

February 22nd, 2019: Gunshot Fired Shows A Disregard For Safety

Guns freak me out. They can kill. Yes, I know proponents say treat it right and with respect but things happen. I remember seeing a video of a kid being taught how to shoot and the lesson ending with the instructor shot dead with the same gun. I don’t know how the girl will every recover from that and the instructor? They died. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes

Day 113

February 21st, 2019: Rights Are Of No Value

If your rights are constantly being ignored, do they really have value? If people say you deserve “X” yet they keep giving you “Y”, do they know that you matter? We need to make sure that our rights are respected. Always. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes

Day 111

February 19th, 2019: Find The Cheer In Gloom

No matter how dark things get, the sun will shine again. No matter how shitty things get, we should focus on the good things in our lives. I love the song from Life Of Brian and I live by it: ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes

Day 110

February 18th, 2019: We Are So Polarized Warmth And Kindness Vanishes Into Thin Air

The hatred that has bubbled to the surface lately is shocking. I think what shocks me more is realising it had always been there just veiled deftly but now that it has almost become the norm to “express yourself”, the veil has been ripped. We are all human beings, this hate will only hurt us. It will hurt us more than we can imagine. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes

Day 108

February 16th, 2019: That Response To The Incident Is The Best

There might be a part of you that wants to lash out because someone did something that hurt you or treated you unfairly but sometimes (most times) the best response is to take a moment to breathe and gather your thoughts. When you react in anger, there’s a chance you might say something you will never be able to take back. #MyBlackOutPoems @centreforarttapes
